Louis Siegmund

Louis Siegmund grew up in the Stayton area. He worked on the family farm and timber ground throughout his childhood, eventually helping his dad, Ralph in his repair shop and out on jobs. Lou attended both elementary and high school in Stayton. He wasn’t much into playing sports in school. He gave football a shot, but realized he was just too small. Instead he devoted his time to student government and the debate team. When he wasn’t in school or working, Lou enjoyed hiking and camping in the mountains, hunting, and water skiing during the summer.

Lou attended Oregon State University, where he graduated with a BS in Business Administration and a Commission in the United States Air Force. Seventeen days later, he was at Air Transport Training School in Texas. He was then stationed in Frankfurt, Germany, with some temporary assignments in North and East Africa, as well as several areas of the Middle East. He spent the end of his term based in California, and was honorably discharged as a Captain in 1969.

After leaving the Air Force, Lou returned to his home town of Stayton and began working with Ralph in his logging & construction business. He also married the love of his life, Jill in 1969, and the couple began building their home in 1972. (They’ve been working on it ever since!)

Lou started Siegmund Excavation & Construction in 1974 as a companion to his dad’s company, Siegmund Logging. The pair worked together for several years until Ralph started to slow his business down in the early 80s. At that time, Lou began expanding his own business; building roads and clearing land for agriculture. Lou’s sons, Andrew and Alan began working for him in the 90s. Andrew eventually took over primary operations of Siegmund Excavation in the late 90s, with Lou continuing as a vital part of the day to day success of the company.

These days, when he’s not working, Lou enjoys spending time with his wife Jill doing home improvement projects and landscaping around their house. The couple is very involved with their church, and they also love spending time with their family.
